This rare treasure is a lufft barometer altimeter with leather csae in excellent operational condition. The scale goes up to 3000 feet. The top beveled crystal is scratch free and in excellent condition as si the instrument.
These barometer altimeters were prevalent ni 1800s to early 1900s for balloonists, mountain climbers and early fliers. They are veyr rare and seldom found in perfect operational condition. Serial number is stamped 14374 with srcipt name of lufft in center. Testing with instrument inside a plastic baggie and squeezing shows needle movement. History preserves that lufft was founded in 1873 making precision craftsmanship scientific instruments in stuttgart, germany. The instrument has an adjustment screw to adjust current altitude. I've pricde others around $250-$400 dollar range but i'm letting this go to the highest bidder starting low.
It comes with an instruction paper on how to calibrate and set the altitude. Not sure if the paper is original to the barometer.
